Alpha Academy

Alpha Academy is a program designed to enhance and enrich the lives of minority males in the Charlotte area. The mission of the program is to assist young men in achieving academic excellence, social refinement and cultural awareness while preparing them for college. We also work to help them become productive members of society.

The Academy will meet from 10 am to 2 pm two Saturdays each month from September to June. Each participant in the program will be matched with a mentor who will work with them one on one to improve academic, personal and professional skills. Each senior in the program is eligible to participate in the Alpha Beautillion Scholarship Formal. The Beautillion is designed to introduce these young men to society and to assist the student with his first year college tuition.

The program will culminate with a graduation ceremony during the first week of June. For more information e-mail info@betanulamba.org

Project Alpha

  • Project Alpha is a collaborative effort between the March of Dimes Foundation and the Beta Nu Lambda Foundation, Inc. This program was developed to increase the knowledge of the today's teens of the consequences of teenage pregnancy. This program seeks to assist students in developing an understanding of their role in preventing untimely pregnancies through responsible attitudes and behaviors.

The goals of Project Alpha are to:

    1) Reduce the rate of adolescent sex and pregnancy.

    2) Stress the concept of abstinence as a personal choice while promoting the use of contraceptives to those that choose to be sexually active.

    3) Increase the knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the human body and the awareness of sexually transmitted diseases.

    4) Clarify and emphasize the roles and responsibilities of fatherhood.

    5) Reduce the rate of sexual abuse and violence among African-American teens.

Project Alpha takes place in the spring of each year. For more information, e-mail projectalpha@betanulambda.org
